Hey guys!

See I'm about to book a flight for myself bound for LA really soon.

And I can't seem to figure out what airline to choose. (Sounds trivial, I know) :):P

Right now, I'm down with 2 options: Asiana or Delta Airlines.

Any feedback with these 2 airlines? Which do you think is better?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks. :D

If you're flying coach, both will be equally good or bad. IMHO, check which one has the best fare and save some money in the process. Having said that expand your search to other airlines that may offer direct or connecting service to LA from MNL.

Good luck and congrats on your visa!

If you prefer Asian quisine on your flight, then Asiana. Delta's not bad but I personally prefer Asian carriers over American carriers base on my experience. Don't discount Cathay Pacific, Korean Airlines, Japan Airlines and some of China's airlines and other southeast Asian airlines like Vietnam and then there's Singapore Airlines that are probably top of the line especially if you need or want Asian food.

I don't know about Asiana but I used Delta for few of my US contenental flights only.

If you're on a budget, pretty comfortable finding your way at the airport and don't mind at least 3 hours layover then go for Korean Air but if you have spare bucks to spend, go for PAL direct flight from MNL-LAX. Good luck and welcome to US soon!:dance:

Every airline has at least 1 stop before the US. It may be just a quick stop with no plane change but they all have it even PAL. Try Hawaiian airlines also.

The nice thing you have going for you is the POE of LA for convenience because its such a major hub. When our time comes, we'll focus on the shortest "air time" verses costs :)

best wishes and good luck on your journey !

If price is same I would choose Asiana. Better food, service and overall comfort. I have flown over the large pond about 50 times in my life. I prefer Asiana, Cathay Pacific, Korean, then Delta. I only flew Singapore Air a few times and it rates as high as Asiana. Delta's lay overs are sometimes shorter than Asiana. Delta is okay but once again, for this American I love the Asian pride and service over Delta's aging and not always happy flight crew. Keep in mind Delta's flight crew is normally their tenured employees as it is a rather easy route for them with a lot of time off. So most of their crew is older, had benefits taken away etc over the years. I will give credit where do. Last August I flew Manila-Detroit via Japan with Delta and the service was excellent.

Good idea on the Hawaiian. I flew them once from Manila to Hawaii and back. Was excellent. And they most likely go to LA as well.

I like Asiana. I flew with them when I went to Cebu earlier this year. Great service, polite staff. I really like the complemtary tooth brush and paste in the restrooms.

Most of the Asian-based airlines have better coach accomodations - better service, food, electric outlets on seat backs, your own flat screen TV on seat back in front of you, ability to pick and choose which movies to watch from a wide range on your own seatback TV, etc. The U.S. carriers generally offer a LOT less luxury in the coach class seating areas. So if I were picking an airline to have an enjoyable flight I'd pick Asiana, Singapore, Cathay, Korean (I'm sure I'm forgetting a few asian-based carriers too). The U.S. airlines are pretty crummy when it comes to trans-pacific or trans-atlantic coach accomodations. The only plus for the U.S. - based carriers might be that they are all fairly safe and fly well-maintained planes. PAL I can't say that about as they have a lot of accidents with their planes. I met a guy in Cebu in Feb who was on a PAL flight that had an engine catch fire and crash-land but everyone survived.

The best way to get from Manila to LA is on PAL because they are the quickest. Case closed.

I believe PAL offers a discount for "firt time" immigrant. Talk to a live agent in the Phils for details.

It's not just PAL... if you book thru a PI travel agent, you can get this first time immigrant discount.
