Hi Gurus,

My earliest possible date is Sept 5th 2012. I haven't started any paperwork yet. We have a planned vacation from OCT 25th to Nov 27th in India. I am wondering if I file now and may get my interview during that period.

There are more possiblity that I will miss them. Not sure what to do at this point? But I can't wait to file.

May I file this week end and see where it takes to me? Or file by end of September so I can finish my Biometric before vacation then it will be set when I come back.

Any thoughts?

09/04/2009 --- Walk-in biometrics done today. Everything went off well in 30 mins.

Hi All, I am filing N400 tomorrow and we have a planned vacation from Oct 25th to Nov 27. Is that ok to travel during the citizenship process? Travel is going to be out side of United states?

Ofcourse it is OK to travel while N400 is in process. The only risk is that you may receive notices for Biometrics/interview/oath while traveling and miss those important events. Incase of rescheduling you risk prolonging your case, or even denial if you don't respond in time. Other than that, Go to the moon and beyond. No restrictions.

If you file at the end of September you might get your biometrics during your vacation.

Is there a serious reason why you can't file once you come back? If not, then it is better just to wait because a month abroad is a lot while the procedure is pending and it is very possible you miss biometrics/interview.

Sure you can travel, but given that the USCIS is so unpredictable with their timing why would you want to add that stress? You would have to worry about receiving mail and if a BIO appointment is during your planned vacation you would have to either leave early from your vacation or find a way to reschedule. Since there is no time limit on filing the N-400, why not just wait until you get back? You also do not know how the processing will go. The end of the fiscal year is approaching and maybe by filing now it gets lost and takes 7 months, but by waiting until December it gets processed in 4 months which means you would receive your citizenship a t the same time. Stranger things have happened.

Thank you Patha. I've been noticing they have more than one month window the date we give the fingerprints so I'm assuming mine will be around Oct 20 and by the time my interview comes I will be back in States. Ill sign up for email notification if I get interview before my planned return date I'm planning to change and return back accordingly. Fingers crossed. :-) let see what others have to say.

Thank you Paradise. I'm sending papers tmrw. I'll see if I can do anything with vacation. I needed to finish this since early next year I've to travel out of country for work. So it's better to have US passport less hassle with Visa.
