My fiance lives in Colombia and we are wondering if, for everything with regards to the K1 visa process (including her bio information, address to where the Colombian embassy will send her packet, etc.) she can use an address other than her own? She lives in a so-so neighborhood and also in a newer apartment and is worried the mailman simply won't find it, because this has happened before. She is thinking about using her college professor's address. I am sure she could just say it's her own and no one will notice as long as she sticks to that script, but we would much prefer to just admit (during her interview, etc) that we used a different address simply because we weren't sure the real address would serve well... Is that okay?

To my knowledge there really isnt anything mailed to the beneficiary, I believe most correspondance will be via email. So it really shouldn't make a difference.

If you go to the guides section there is a step by step guide for K1 that will have the entire process, you can read over that and confirm there is no snail mail, I know for CR1 everything is sent via email (on the beneficiaries side). Good Luck on your Journey.

The Colombian mail system is so unreliable and "crappy", for lack of a better word, that the chances of her getting anything in the mail are pretty slim to none. Once you know that the NVC has sent her case to the US embassy, you can contact the embassy and give them your email address, as well as hers, so they can communicate with you electronically. As for the visa delivery, she can choose to pick it up at the DHL location of her choice, no need to have it delivered.

If you have any more questions regarding the process in Colombia, you can post them in the Colombia Club thread where you'll get more detail help from other members who have already gone or are currently going through the visa process.
