Hi All,

I am about to head to Vietnam for the engagement. I will not be able to come with her to the interview. I will head to Vietnam again once she passed the interview and the visa has been issued that way I can fly with her to the U.S.

Here is the latest status of our case. The HCM Consolate received her package 3 last week. I called DoS today and they said the interview appointment which is package 4 is still being worked on so no interview date yet. I expect within 2 weeks we'll find out the interview date and the interview should be 1 month later, so somewhere in Mid October.

I like to help prepare everything for her before the interview and I only have this trip duration of 2 weeks in Vietnam to have the engagement ceremony as well as to prepare all documentations.

I am bringing the following with me to Vietnam, and this is my only trip before her interview. Please provide any info or comments that might help us prepare our interview to be a successful one.

1. Appointer Letter (not yet ready)

2. Fee for VISA MRV $240 (not yet ready)

3. Her 2 VISA photos (ready)

4. VISA Forms DS-156, DS-156K, DS-230 (ready)

5. Her Identification Card (ready)

6. Her Passport (ready)

7. Her household registration book (ready)

8. Her birth certificate (ready)

9. My U.S. naturalization certificate (ready)

10. Her Martial Status Document (ready)

12. Her Original Justice Record Check (ready)

16. Her medical exams results (not yet)

17. My Evidence of Support

---a. I-134 (ready)

---b. 5 months bank statements (ready)

---c. Employer letter (ready)

---d. Income Pay Stubs 4 most recent months (ready)

---e. Income taxes 2010, 2011 (ready)

---f. Stock statements (ready)

18. Evidence of Relationship

---a. Intent Letter to marry for both (ready)

---b. Phone calls logs (ready)

---c. Hand letters (ready)

---d. Money and gift receipts that I sent her monthly (ready)

---e. Airlines receipts (ready)

---f. Receipts of hotels (not yet)

---g. Timeline of relationship that notarized (ready)

---h. 10 years residency from me, notarized (ready)

---i. 10 years residency from her ready but not yet notarized

---h. Engagement pictures, not yet but will have ready for interview

I will also bring with me

1. Copy of the entire I129F package that I filed back in March

2. All the originals documentary proof that submitted for the I-129F

3. Letters of NOA1, NOA2, NVC...

Question:

1. I only have hard copy of income taxes years 2010, 2012, would that be enough or do I need to call the IRS for more years?

Thanks

If I were the C/O, I would ask myself if it would be believable for someone who had the Engagement AFTER filing the 129F petition. It's not a requirement according to the law, but it surely looks like the petitioner and beneficiary just trying to hurry and rush doing the Engagement ceremony for the sake of fulfilling the I-129F petition typical expectation.

You might get lucky. But keep in mind, your game plan is not wise. It's too late to change anything now. But there's something you should do to improve your odd against failure: being there with her on the interview date. That'll prove to the C/O that you're not just there whenever required (like just for the Engagement).

Sometimes, you worry about the little things and forget to look at the "bigger" picture (which will matter MOST)!

Whys that? He obviously has been to Vietnam at least once to meet her or else the I-129F would not of been approved unless there were special circumstances that allowed them not to meet. I think it's a great idea if he mentioned in his time line his plans of an engagement before the interview.

My only words of advice is your future fiancee knows everything about you and your family. Birthdays, your favorite food, your place of employment etc. Best of Luck!

We engaged between us two, we wanted to marry each other, we wanted to live with each other before I filed I-129F. However, the engagement ceremony is not just a cultural, it's not just a way for both families to meet but it is for us to officially engage instead of just orally.

Just like any marriage, people love each other so much and they propose and the MARRIAGE after.

I don't see what is wrong with filing I-129F first and then later when we the time comes, then we have our engagement ceremony. What is wrong with that?

This course of action is very typical in Vietnam.

WoW man. Looks like you and I are at the same point. My fiance sent in her packet 3 last week. I called yesterday and they said it was received but there is no interview date set yet. I also plan to go pick my fiance up and travel back to the US. Maybe we might run into each other.

Also, what documents do they need in original form from me? I sent in the original NOA2, but copies of my naturalization certificate and passport.

Why you do the "10 years residency"? Didn't you have to fill that out in the form already?
