I've posted this already in the Adjustment of Status area. But, here it goes again. I'm hoping has an ideea of what is this letter we received.

So, we had our AOS interview in May and received the greencard shortly after. Today I open the mail and there is a letter from the USCIS. This is what it says:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 19, 2006

XXXXnameXXXX

XXXaddressXXX

Re: XXXXnameXXXX

On 9/8/2006 you, or your designated representative, contacted the National Customer Service Center about your case. Some of the key information give at that time was the following:

Case type: I485

Receipt Number: MSCXXXXXXXXXX

A Number: AXXXXXXX

Since the date the request was received concerning the application referenced above, Service systems show that your application was approved and the card or document was produced. The card or document was sent to the address on file at the time, and it has not been returned to the Service as undeliverable.

Therefore, the above-referenced inquiry is considered to be resolved. If you applied for an Employment Authorization Document (I-765) or an Advanced Parole Document (I-131) and did not receive it, you will need to reapply with the correct fee and documentation. However, if you have since received your Legal Permanent Residence card (I-551), you do not need to apply for these documents because you may work and travel as a Legal Permanent Resident. If you applied to adjust your status (I-485) or to replace your Legal Permanent Resident Card (I-90) and you did not receive your card, you will need to file form I-90 "A", Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, with the correct fee and documentation.

You may download these forms by visiting the webiste at www.uscis.gov.

If you have any further questions, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

Please remember: By law, every person who is not a U.S. citizen and who is over the age of 14 must also notify the Department of Homeland Security within 10 days from when the move (persons in "A" or "G" nonimmigrant status are exempt from this requirement). If you have moved please complete form AR-11 and mail it to the address shown on that form. If you do not have this form, you can print it from our website or you can call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 to request the form. If you change your address, we also request that you call USCIS, at the number above, with the new address as soon as possible.

I am confused, why are they sending us this letter. We did not contact them on 9/8/2006. Why would we? We have the greencard, all is good. Who called? Why do they have the Receipt Number and A Number. We never had to call the USCIS. We have no representative. Anyone have an ideeea of what might have happened here?

Thanks,

Octavia

If you are concerned that your identity might have been compromised, it would perhaps be prudent to talk to someone competent in USCIS and establish whether this is an error generated by themselves or if there is something more sinister taking place. If the latter, it would perhaps be prudent to consult with the police?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

This is what happens when you keep pestering the USCIS with silly enquiries.

It takes them several years to get around to processing your request when you already forgot what it was.

You never called the 800 number, emailed the Service Center, or contacted

your congressman to expedite your case?

Hmm that's strange. I wouldn't worry about it too much though -- it's probably

another one of their numerous screwups.

Hi Octa, :)

My personal opinion: If you feel strong about not contacting them, neither you or your spouse, then you should call that National Customer Service Center at that 1-800 number and, express your concern of identity compromise and ask: who requested the information, when that happened, who authorized that, and hat information had been given away and how (the shipping address, e-mail or contact phone). If nothing you’ll hear sound familiar, you should check out everything regarding your identity. Identity theft is a growing crime in the US  and you should contact the authorities (police), banks, credit agencies, and make sure there is nothing going on in your name anywhere. It may be nothing, but with so many illegal immigrants in the US a legal identity may be sold on the black market for good money a guess...

It could be just a false alarm, and just one of their many screw-ups like someone else said before, but if something bad happened, then it is better to know and take actions as soon as possible.

Again, it is just my thought on this.

Take care,
