Hi everyone!

My parents are going to be co sponsoring my petition for my fiances visa. My sister is 22 years old and is not claimed on my parents tax returns. She kind of floats in and out of the house and has for years, though she has used our address for mail, etc. She is talking about moving out, so I was wondering how this effects the poverty line for our petition. I'm pretty sure they make enough even if she was included in the poverty line, but if they don't, does not having her on the taxes make a difference?

She's not a minor. She's not claimed as a dependent by the parents. I can't be 100% sure, but I believe she wouldn't be considered part of the household. The tax transcripts and/or 1040 wouldn't list her as part of the 'household'. Maybe, some others could verify this.

The I-134 doesn't actually count up household members by adding up numbers. It is somewhat more informal than the I-864 for adjustment of status. If you look at it, the form asks the sponsor to name people who depend on them for support...full or partial. Your parents can decide if they support her enough to list her.
