I gave my fiancée an iPhone and it was worth it. We use it all the time using Skype or Viber we use it as phone using Internet but the phone had to be jail brake to be able to use it. We will also use it to keep communicating when she is fling to USA. She is leaving the lap top with her family so she can communicate with them when she'd is in USA already.

By your post, you are asking what you can buy in the philippines, and works in the Phils, and then take it to the U.S.. Whatever you buy in the Philippines, if you want to have cheap coverage in the states you will have to participate in one of the plans there. Not sure how they will address that being they love to have you buy one of their phones. I have always bought the U.S phone and had it unlocked in the Phils...
