Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. is committed to treating all people with courtesy and respect and our policies and procedures clearly outline that discrimination has no place in our company. Ms. Rose Rock has been a regular visitor to our store over the years and we still consider her to be a valued guest. She herself said at her recent press conference that she was surprised by this incident because she has always had good experiences at Cracker Barrel.

In regard to Ms. Rock’s recent visit, please know this was not a case of discrimination.

Our preliminary investigation shows that this was simply an honest mistake in operations as we were getting ready for the dinner hour and shifting personnel. Her table was not effectively reassigned. We regret this mistake and have repeatedly tried to make amends.

When the store manager realized there was a problem, he apologized to Ms. Rock and offered to personally expedite her order. She refused. Store management followed up within the week by sending a formal letter of apology, a gift basket and passes for complimentary meals. We believe this demonstrates our deep commitment to good customer service.

As a company that serves 600,000 guests every day, Cracker Barrel strives to provide a great guest experience to every person. Sometimes we fall short and when we do, we apologize to those guests who are accustomed to receiving a higher level of service when they visit Cracker Barrel. This is apparently what happened during Ms. Rock’s visit and we sincerely regret this incident.

If the Cracker Barrel story is true and an honest mistake (we are only human and we DO make mistakes) AND the manager attempted to make ammends then she has no case...since.

She refused.

Again since none of us were there we do not know the whole story, now do we?

This would be believable if it was the first time. This place has consistently provided this kind of treatment to minorities.

This is just a statement written by company lawyers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cracker_Barrel#Public_relations

We are discussing their racism and people continuing to patronize them..why would someone support such a place when we are all here trying to talk immigration in our personal lives? In my opinion there should be more widespread efforts to stop bigotry that is allowed to continue by many establishments...today its them being discriminated against, tomorrow it will be you....

You lost me! Patronize? We are here trying to talk immirgration? So what is up with this thread then?

This is the off topic forum..my point was that tolerating these idiots when some of us are reaching out for immigrants should hit home with us whether or not we are minorities. Most Americans turn the other way saying this does not affect them. If all Americans knew how Cracker Barrel treats minorities, maybe they would have gone under long time ago-why would anyone patronize them? Am trying to avoid using the phrase 'need a permanent boycott'. I ask again, why would anyone support such an idiotic organization? Can someone answer that?

To get a job elsewhere? Just say nothing to them, maybe they are just there for the money.

From the 2000 case, the enforcement of the racist policies was by white people...the other minorities were not in on what was going on, because they were spread out far away from where the discrimination was being executed, usually at the restaurant entrance...

So what should I tell the African-American waiter that usually serves us at our local Cracker Barrel?

Matako,

You sound bitter! Did someone pee in your wheaties this morning. What you are saying is throw the baby out with the bath water. And how can you speak for most Americans, are you most Americans? Where I live all races eat at carkcer barrel, and work there.

Not angry...just that people choose to look at establishments and incidents like these in isolation instead of punishing them financially. We always have to wait until a celebrity or someone with money goes through something like this for the problem to come to the fore. How many cases went unreported because the victims were poor minorties who just walked away because they had no access to the media or lawyers? You need to look at the bigger picture, not be tunnel visioned...

Where there is smoke, there is fire.

Uh huh.

The question was sarcastic, by the way.

Tell him to apologize for spitting in your food on the way from the kitchen. I am serious.

This kind of ####### all started with Denny's being shaken down. Now every time a black person has to wait a couple minutes to get a meal they think it's some Klan run operation and they are owed millions of dollars. Where a white person just would think the service suck and get up an leave.

Exactly, if the service stinks, leave.

If you do more reserach on Cracker Barrel, you will be surprised to learn that you are very wrong. The discrimination was in their manuals..its not a phantom..well anyone who goes there know what type of organization they are supporting..for me, I called up everyone I know all over the country and mass emailed my friends and relatives and told them to stay away and most obliged...We have to punish these kind of events...

The service at crakcer barrel stinks, why people wait hours to eat there is beyond me. When I go out to eat, that is what I want to do, not wait. But the crowds are all kinds of races outside, so how bad can it be?
