TS clearance

Your TS should be intact, provided you have been following the rules with receiving permission to travel to china and filling out the required travel debrief when you returned. Most likely on your re-investigation you will be sent to adjudication, and a good chance you will not be re-issued a TS since your wife is from China. However there are a lot of factors and that depends on your program. Lots of high profile Chinese espionage cases in the past few years.

I do have some experience with this (not with China though), my SFO said I had no issues also, however won't detail it on a public forum.

Thank you for sharing your your experience. I have a feeling that I will lose my clearance during re-investigation but you never know. Its just too bad that my Fiance and I have to pay for all the misdeeds and mistrust between countries. I am just hoping that I do not loose my current TS and that way I will have sometime to try and find another Job.

I am a Department of Defense civilian with a TS clearance. I ran into no problems during the visa process. My background check didn’t seem to take any longer than average and my clearance was never brought up during the interview. So as someone else has already mentioned, you should have no problems in that area. Your job, on the other hand, might be a different story. You should definitely discuss everything with security.

As far as I know, co-habitation or marriage to foreign national from "certain nations" will almost result in the loss of clearance for both TS and SCI. In your case, you need to ask your SO or you may already required to inform your SO by having a fiancee from PRoC. You will need to list all her family members on your SF-86. The real question to ask yourself is that can you still do you job without TS Clearance should you get deny to keep it?

That’s the impression I was left with after speaking with security. Prior to marrying my husband, I contacted the Personnel Security Specialist at headquarters who is involved with the clearance investigations. She said this type of relationship isn’t uncommon and GENERALLY doesn’t cause a problem when it comes to a clearance. From our discussion, I gathered that the potential for any problems may depend on what country your spouse is from. She specifically asked which country my husband was from and when I told her Dominican Republic, her voice changed and she sounded a lot less concerned about the situation. She stated that my marriage should be even less of an issue since he’s not from a country that’s a real threat to the US. She even said had my husband been from somewhere like Iraq then I would more than likely run into some problems.

She also told me I needed to speak with my local Security Manager. The SM wasn’t overly concerned about my relationship. He requested that I provide him with a written statement about how we met, my dates of travel, and information about our joint bank account in DR so it could all be kept on file and used to explain anything that came up during the next investigation. So far I haven’t had any problems and neither has anyone else at work that’s married to a foreign national. There is one guy whose wife is German and another guy whose wife is Japanese. Both have been married to their wives for many years and neither has had any problems with their clearance.

Boca - Thank you for sharing =) Your information is much appreciated.

I am going to transfer jobs and will downgrade my clearance to a standard clearance. I am hoping this along with my honesty of all my actions will help mitigate any concerns that may happen.
