"No Trace" in London Police Certificate

My fiance received a "no trace" on his Police Certificate from England as opposed to "no live trace" - However, on the US Embassy website for London, it says in RED letters:

"If the police certifiate [sic] states "No Trace" or "No Live Trace", please be prepared to discuss your arrests/cautions/convictions with the consular officer on the day of the interview."

Is this a mistake because I thought "no trace" means there are no arrests/convictions/cautions or other criminal history?!??!?

Here is the link: http://london.usembassy.gov/document_checklist.html#police_certificate

HELP!!!!

I noticed that too because it didn't used to say that. AS far as I know, people with no citations, arrests, etc get "no trace" on their police certificate so they could hardly discuss something they don't have. Maybe they have written that because they want you to answer the form truthfully even if it doesn't show up in police records. Some have asked that question on VJ before--"I had a caution, but my police certificate says no trace. Do I have to write it on the form?" Perhaps London is trying to make it clear to tell them about any run-ins with the law, even if nobody but you knows about it.

I've had NO arrests/cautions/conviction in my life and my UK Police Certificate said NO TRACE. Because NO TRACE means you have not been arrested/convicted/cautioned or have any other criminal history. No questions were asked about it at the London embassy or in the US. Good Luck!

My guy's police certificate said "no trace" and was never arrested and had no criminal history and he had no problems or any additional questions about this at the interview. I agree with Nich-Nick's comments about the embassy wanting people to disclose everything

'No Trace" is exactly what you want. It means no trace on Police National Computer (PNC). I.e. no crimial record.

" 'No Live Trace' this means that you have convictions that have been 'stepped down'. These convictions still form part of your criminal history and should be declared in any application you make to Immigration." - From ACPO site

I realise this is an old thread but still feel it's relivent.

I have today received my police record and it says NO TRACE. Happy days! Except..... When much younger (12years old or so I had a brush with the law where I was (I thought) arrested and cautioned. No further action was taken, just a severe ticking off by the local station Sargent and my mum came to take me home...

Question is, do I remember this incorrectly as it was a number of years ago...(I'm 32 now) and I was just told off and it not recorded or is there some other mistake.... I'm not complaining about the no trace result, just don't want to screw anything up.

You have "no trace". It would say "no LIVE trace" if there was any record to be found on you. Go with your clean record and forget the fuzzy memory is how I would do it.

That's what I'm thinking. Just fighting the paranoia that it's all some kind of illaborate trap! Lol I guess I was told it was more than it was when younger, probably to scare me which im guessing worked...
