Does immigration look into your IRS and employment records at all? Can you just give them the primary places of employment you've worked, or do you really have to give them every single place you've worked for 5 years?

Also, if I haven't made much income last year, primarily because I was going to school and doing a skilled-labor program while working part-time and my 2011 tax are slightly below the income requirement, will this hurt me?

They can check anything pertaining to your identity during the background checks which they will conduct primarily in the stage while waiting for I-129F approval. For example, if one didn't file their taxes for one or more years, this will be a red flag and road block in the process. Regardless of what they will check, you need to follow instructions precisely for all forms involved in every stage of the immigration process. In other words, yes, you need to list all employers for the last 5 years. Otherwise, you face a more than likely RFE and delay in your approval or plans. At the interview, you will be required to provide the I-134 with supporting financial documents to show evidence that you meet or exceed the 125% poverty level. There is no way around this. Whatever your income may be, it will be required to provide. If you fall below the 125% level, you have the option of using a cosponsor. You will still need to fill out an I-134 and report your income as you would if you were the only sponsor. However, your cosponsor would fill out a separate I-134 form as well and provide the necessary documents to show evidence that the income requirements will be met.

ok thanks, past taxes dont have to be over the poverty level if the current paystubs with current employer show enought to pass the poverty level of this year (2012)

As long as they can prove it, they are good to go.

That's good to know because my income this years is exceeding their requirements - whereas in the past couple years it wasn't because I was still in school and training programs. So I was worried if I'd get problems because I have no recent tax filings from the past couple years to show much income.

I didn't file taxes in 2010 because I made below the poverty income that year in the US, but I did have income an taxes from Australia, so will I need my AU tax return?

You don't need an AU tax return. You DO need to report any place you have lived for more than 6 months on your G-325A form. For I-134, you will be fine as long as you meet or exceed the income requirement, can show this projection, and do not have any outstanding taxes that need to be filed.

To my knowledge, there is no concern over your credit or credit score. They are only interested in income and/or liquid assets. There is no concern over liquid assets if you meet or exceed the income requirement from your job alone. You're welcome.
