Not sure where to post this but...

We just sent out our ds-230 (packet 3). I went to update my timeline and noticed that packet 3 received/sent is after Consulate Processing. As a result, the timeline is not in chronological order and causes confusion. Is there a reason why visajourney formatted it this way? Shouldn't the packet 3 sent/received dates be after the step of paying your IV bill?

I don't know about K1 category.

I only know CR1 or IR1

After you send your DS230 and AOS packets.

NVC will receive and review them.

If everything is fine no RFE.

Then your case will be completed.

That's all I know about NVC stage.

You can have a look at the flowchart.

Packet 3 is for K1 visa applicants, not IR-1/CR-1 applicants. So just skip it on the timeline.

I do agree that the timeline needs to be fixed for IR-1/CR-1 applicants though...

People doing CR1/IR1 via DCF still get Packet 3's, so it is a relevant data point for some and should not be removed.

So, those doing DCF for a spousal visa get a packet 3 like fiancee visas with different forms than the non-DCF way? I thought those doing DCF had the AOS and IV packages, but just submitted them to the consulate/embassy (instead of NVC like the non-DCFers)...

There should be two different timelines for IR-1/CR-1 applicants then, one for those doing DCF and another for doing it non-DCF. That would be the best way to go about doing it as there are different timeticks for both.

It depends on which consulate you're processing through. London's Packet 3 for CR1s/IR1s is remarkably similar to the K1s minus a few DS forms. Back in Ye Olden Days (i.e. 2007) when you got the packet, it even said "Packet 3" at the bottom when they sent you the papers. I think calling them anything but a Packet 3 would be very confusing to DCF peeps.

Ah, cool, didn't know that! Yeah, I think to avoid confusion for both parties (DCF/non-DCF) the timeline should be changed into two different timelines.
