Translation of Marriage Certificate

Quick question,

For sending of the 1-130 is this right for the Marriage Certificate part...

1. Notarized/Legalized copy of our original marriage certificate in Italian. (stamped and everything)

2. Translated copy of marriage certificate from Italian to English. (shouldn't need to get it notarized right?)

3. Sworn statement from the person who translated the document in both Italian and English. (Italian version is stamped or notarized by govt official, do we need the same for the english version?)

My husband insisted on notarizing our English version. In fact I think he just about notarized everything that was translated into English lol. It's better to be safe than sorry, so I say get it notarized.

A notary simply verifies signatures an documents. They have zero to do with content. It serves no purpose to notarize these docs.

reviving this forum post. i have a question.

We got our marriage certificate and my husband translated it and he also signed the sworn statement for translation.

he got it attested or notarized i am not sure. but we have the attested copies of original marriage certificate and translated copy also . but translated copy doesn't have to have signature of us does it ? i mean we didn't sign it thinking when we give it to a third party for translation we don't don't sign those. so it's normal right not having signatures on translated version of marriage certificate? sorry if it might be a dumb question. i don't want extra delay on anything want to be safe.

Well, I don't think it's a MUST to get the marriage certificate notarized. If you want to do it, go for it, but it's not a requirement. Also at i-130 part of the process, only photocopies will be needed!

In my personal experience at I-130 stage, what my husband and I did was to TRANSLATE the marriage certificate from Spanish to English, we paid a professional translator to do it (but I have seen here in the forum that many people translate their documents themselves and it's OK) and what she did was to make a sort of a template of our certificate, and in the places where there were signatures she just wrote "Handwritten signature of <NAME>". And that's it! We got our case approved at USCIS, no RFE
