At least it sounds like the only real damage is here is that it will cost you more money, your wife will have to stop working while she waits for new EAD, and you have a buttload of paperwork to do.

I know you don't need to be berated, but I'm still shocked anytime I hear of stories like this. The 90 day rule is sooooooo painfully simple, it astonishes me that someone can botch it.

OK, a good lesson.

When my fiancé is here in about a month, we intend to do the legal courthouse wedding asap so we can begin the process. We'd like to do a bigger planned 'wedding' or reception, but that can wait a bit.

I guess let your example be a lesson to everyone out there.
