So I was going to renew/ re-apply my expired California driver's license as soon as I get there, but is it even possible without GC and/or social security number??

They said it will take 3 weeks for the SS card and 2-3 month for GC. Do I have to wait for like 3 months to be able to drive!!!????????? I cannot do anything......(I don't have DL in my country)

Also I had a SSN on OPT. Will they send me a new card with the same number or I need to go to the social security office to renew???

Check with the local DMV and find out what the rules are.

In Texas, when I got my EAD I thought I could finaly get my Texas DL , but nope .. the DMV site had the EAD listed as a form not allowed to be used. I had to wait for the greencard to show up. But honestly, my ALberta DL was good enough, it was a valid DL, so not having a Texas one didnt bother me to much.

You should be able to keep your SSN. Did you check "I don't have an SSN, please assign one to me" in your IV forms??? If not, what's your question is all about: YOU DO HAVE SSN NOW.

Ok so I get to keep this number. That's what I was thinking.

I answered "yes" for "have you applied for a SSN" and also "yes" to "would you like to receive a replacement card?" Does this come to my house automatically?

Yes I have my old card with me.

In this case, I don't understand your concern. Why you're worrying about SS card taking 3 weeks if you already have one?

you're right. I confused myself :bonk:

I was just freaking out about possibly not getting a DL asap, but what I need at DMV is a Green Card not SS card!!!

I really hope they will let me have my driver's license without the actual GC. Otherwise, I have to bike.

OK so I landed in US yesterday and went to DMV today. I brought my expired CA license and the renewal letter with me. It had been expired for 14 months, but guess what they let me renew it!!!! Yay!! I had to take a paper test though. For renewal, I couldn't make no more than 3 mistakes but I got 4 wrong, but they gave me 1 more question and I got it right and so they let me pass.

They didn't ask me for GC, visa, or even passport :hehe: I don't know if they did it right, but either way I have my license renewed! Yay!
