Translations of names are often a pain from English to Russian. My last name has no such exact sound in

Russian. Lehman. I pronounce it LeeMan not LayMan. Either way of pronouncing it is correct. We spent

two days going back and forth on this topic with ZAGs and the Translator service.

So..yes..it is VERY important you get as close as you can to how you SAY IT and then stick with that

all the way through all the process overseas! Lexman (pronounced in Russian a little like Lechman)

is as close as I could get the translators in Moscow to come up with. The ZAGs Director accepted

this without a problem.

That is what is on our Marriage Certificate and on my Wife's Internal Passport

in Russian. No doubt in Belarus you will have the same difficulty.

Choose the way your name sounds and stay with it from then on.

Not a big deal. Just make sure all the papers have the same horrible translation on them and you'll be fine.

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

the problem is i filed all the paperwork using Peart. Her Birth and our Marriage certificates translated Peart.

Her passport reads Pirt. She told me when I visited her. and showed me. the first page has roman letters, At the embassy doesn't the visa they give her have to have the same spelling

Whatever it says in her passport is what she needs on her visa and other immigration-related paperwork. Whenever she goes to the interview have them correct it then.

ETA - this isn't something that's a "deal killer" or even a negative, really. It's just a paperwork issue and, believe it or not, you're not the first person this has happened to and you won't be the last. They've seen this before and they'll see it again.

Rumor has it the folks who type up the transliterations do it on purpose. Don't sweat it. They'll get it all figured out. Just lean toward whatever's in the passport since that's effectively her only ID until she gets her GC. When she gets the GC she can get it in any name she wants.
