Hello,

I have a dilema on question #10 on the I129f form.

My citizenship was acquired through...check one. This is the dilema. I am an american citizen, however I was born in Colombia and came to the states when I was 18 months old. My parents became citizens then somehow I automatically became a citizen.

I will be checking the "parents" option for question #10. However I do not have a certificate of citizenship. Is this a problem??? I can only prove my citizenship through my passport.

What documents did you show to get the passport? Do you not have access to these? The form instructions do allow you to show all pages of your passport as proof of citzenship, but in reviewing your petition that can still ask for more evidence.

I renewed my passport in 2002. I only took my old passport to renew which i got in 1995. I think, i'm not too sure. Is a american passport not enough to prove citizenship?

My mom says she became a citizen when I was 5 years old. And I automatically was granted citizenship. Just some info, please help??

Under the box where you check "Parents" do you see the next question? It says:

Have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your name? Yes ___ No ___

Since you do not have a certificate of citizenship, check the box that says NO.

Copy every single page of your passport as proof of your citizenship. If they require more evidence, they will send you an RFE. In the meantime, you should be digging into the paperwork mystery and whether or not you can locate a copy of something valuable or find out what you used to get your original passport.

This is not possible. You have a Certificate of Citizenship. You could NOT have obtained your very first original US passport without it. In recent history, all US citizens born abroad either have a Certificate of Naturalization or a Certificate of Citizenship. If you were born say in the 1890's or 1920's perhaps not, but if you're born in the past 40 years, then you definitely have one or the other.

My daughter was born in Mexico. I got her "Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America" certificate when she was born. At this time it was recommend that I also get a passport for my daughter. If your parents got your passport for you when you were a child and you just keep on renewing it I can see how your Certificate could of been lost.

I don't remember seeing where you born?

While I was still in Mexico I was given a notice of how I could request additional copies of Report of Birth if the original was lost.

This is what the letter says:

If a replacement of the Report of Birth is needed it may be obtained from the Department of State upon writing to:

U.S. Department of State

Passport Services Correspondence Branch

CA/PPT/PS/PC, Suite 510

1111 19th Street NW

Washington, D.C. 20522-1705

Telephone numbers: (202) 647-0518 or (202) 955-037

The request must include an affidavit setting forth the circumstances surrounding the loss, theft, or mutilation of the previous document, and the appropriate fee (currently , US $40.00). The following identifying information must be provided in the request:

1. Full name of the Child:

2. Date and place of birth;

3. Name(s) of the parent(s);

4. Location of the consular office that recorded the birth; and

5. Serial number of the consular report of birth, if known.

etc..................................

I think you would of been given a similiar document but now that I reread your post I'm not sure it woud be exactly the same. Maybe the above info will help though and they can tell you who to talk to if you need to talk to someone else.

I was given this letter about three years ago but it should give you a place to start and an idea of what you will need to do to replace the document just in case you get a RFE for it. I recomend that you start the process of getting your certificate now though and not waiting for your RFE since I'm not sure how long the process would take.

Good luck.

You had to show some kind of document from the first passport, this is what I meant. You have some good answer here that should help you solve this problem. Good luck!
