My fiancee was in the "China Communist Youth League", but never joined CCP.

I know I'm ahead.... On the "Packet 4" forms, should my fiancee list "China Communist Youth League" on "party/organization/affiliation"? If yes, does she need an explanation similar to CCP? I tried doing a search in the forum, but couldn't find any answers.

Also, I think there's a question where it asks "Were you part of a totalitarian party?". What should she answer?

Thanks!

great question to post over on candleforlove.com

Seriously, I can't recall this question asked here at VJ for the last 4 years.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Check out the current similar themed parallel forum thread about CCP membership and the CFL site link given in the responses. The CFL site mentioned has a lot of information about CCP and possible resultant immigration effects. She should answer all questions truthfully.

The site's Google custom search function works quite well, I have used it successfully numerous times. Many of these topics have been discussed several times in prior threads.

There is an approximately a 7-10 month wait (barring any delays or detours) from initial petition filing to consulate interview. Over the months, it has helped me to remember that this visa journey is not a sprint race, but rather it is a marathon. BTW, were are you in your visa journey? Your timeline is a little scant.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Okay, i'll post it on CFL too.

A&B - I was referring to CYL, not CCP. CYL is very different from CCP. Anyone can join CYL (and students usually do at an early age), but the membership gets terminated once you turn 28 years old since CYL is designed for the youth only

I'll put a timeline soon. I'm just getting all my paperwork together and trying to make sure everything is correct and sufficient. Haven't sent anything out yet. Little anxious since the denial rates seem little high in GUZ. Thanks for your help!

Hey thanks for the info. However, it is the interviewing consulate officer that your SO may have to discuss about the finer points of Communist Party affiliation and hopefully avoid a "Blue Slip." It is good that you are doing your research.

From DS-230, question 40c:

"An alien who seeks to enter the United States to engage in espionage, sabotage, export control violations, terrorist activities, the overthrow of the Government of the United States or other unlawful activity; who is a member of or affiliated with the Communist or other totalitarian party; who participated, engaged or ordered genocide, torture, or extrajudicial killings; or who is a member or representative of a terrorist organization as currently designated by the U.S. Secretary of State."

Good luck on your immigration journey.

yup, going over the red flags too. thanks!

haha. as far as i've read on google, it doesn't seem like CYL members have the power to make/dictate decisions or engage in genocide and torture or even cause sabotage. i don't think they fit that "totalitarian" description. the CYL seems very informal compared to CCP.

but of course, it's only my opinion...

i think CYL practices on pigeons, these genocide exercises..

But I digress...
