Marrying American man, what is the time frame in months for green card

Hello everyone, I am a filipina who wants to mary the man I have been with for almost two years now. I am here on a J-1 Visa and it expires in July of next year (2013).

We plan on getting married in Fall, maybe September or October hopefully, and I will be filiing for green card immediately after we are married.

Besides filing the I-130 and I-485, are there any other forms I need to file, or anything else I need to do, to make sure our marriage and my status to stay in the U.S. and continue working with my employer stays legitimate and without interruption?

Thank you for your time, I did try reading through all the information on here, but it became a bit more confusing than I hoped.

Any help would be appreciated

Yours truly

You have to go through these particular guides:

http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2

You can file both of those forms, unless you want to file for your EAD and AP, then you have to file those forms along with them.

It's important to understand the guides because this is mostly a do it yourself forum, so if the process really confuses you, you should reach out to an attorney. The people on here are very helpful with questions that need answering on particular issues, but definitely utilize the guides :)

Time wise I think you should be fine. Ours was approved in abt 3 months back in 2010. Not sure what the current timelines are but probably similar. Make sure to check that you are not subject to the 2 year home residency rule for your J-1. If you are, you will need a waiver. Happy wedding planning!
