Hi All,

Just asking for a bit off advise. Im hopefully moing to the Florida Area in August (well if the visa is done by then  )

I currently am working as an IT Programme Manager any ideas on wher i can find a good site or contact to help with finding a job before i move or just some advise.

Thanks

If you're not already on LinkedIn, get on there. There are numerous groups for IT professionals on there, including many local/regional groups. If the FL-area groups are like the ones I'm in, they'll post jobs and they will be crawling with recruiters looking for talent. I highly recommend getting to know a FL-area recruiting firm that specializes in IT.

bless, my husband just moved here in July, got authorization to work in March...has been applying like crazy and times are pretty competitive at the moment. He was in IT as well. With the baby coming and anxiety high, we've decided he will go to school / keep baby while I work.

Kelly services is one of Florida's biggest recruitment agencies. I would definitely check there.

All the best (and yes! Start NOW!)

I would suggest finding a reputable recruitment agency, preferably specializing in IT recruitment. Back in 2006 I worked with a recruiter from Teksystems who did a great job of explaining my situation (no US work history, immigration status etc..) to prospective employers. I got a couple of interviews through him, one of which landed me the job I've been in for over 6 years now.

I got very frustrated applying for jobs online and not hearing anything back. I have a feeling that a lot of prospective employers were unsure of my exact immigration status and were unsure if it would cost them anything to employ me (I wasn't on a work visa so no sponsorship needed). Having someone who would answer those questions on my behalf I think it key to getting employers to understand that it's no more complicated to employ you than any other applicant.

Good luck !!

Mark

I used the CareerBuilder website to get my IT job here in the States. It lists a lot of perm/contract positions and also there's an iPhone app for it too :)
