Hi everyone. We've been lurkers, love this site, and without all of your help my wife and I would've struggled to get to where we are now. So thank you all.

My Dutch wife from Holland has gone through the immigration process to the point where her green card came in the mail. She is holding her conditional Green Card in her hand right now and smiling down at it- She, however, wanted to Americanize her first name. We put her desired first name on forms as a surname or "other names used", but she wants it to be her printed legal first name. So our questions are these:

1) What can she do to get her desired first name corrected on the Green Card? Searching this site for "Name Change" is too vague and not what we're specifically after doing (as most posts are asking the obvious "What should we put down for his/her new married last name")

2) What can she do to get her desired first name on the Social Security card we're about to apply for?

Thanks in advance.

Changing a first name requires going to the courts.

To change a name on the green card you must file an I-90 pay the humungus fee and wait close to 60 days.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

First, congrats!

Second, I agree with Inky. First step is to get her name changed legally through the court. Without a legal name change, the legal name is still the Dutch name. Once her name has been legally changed, file the I-90, and inform the Social Security Administration.
