When I was there (Montreal), I arrived early..first in...first out. There are vending machines once you get in so take change...and there are washrooms as well. Remember you have to go through Security such as that as an airport. Sounds like you have the kid's entertainment figured out. Most important of all..relax as they are very helpful and friendly in there..just double check to ensure you have all your paperwork..better to much then not enough. be honest when answering questions..you will be fine. Good Luck and All The Best To You.

1. My appointment time was for 8:30am. I wanted to be the first one in there, so I was there at ~6:30am. Doors open around 7:30am. If you don't want to spend hours inside the consulate, I suggest you get there before 7am. And yes, you'd be waiting outside the consulate doors as they do not open the doors until 7:30am (in which you then go security, like an airport). Don't worry about clothes. I was dressed in jeans and a shirt, wearing a sweater. As long as you don't show up in tatters looking like a hobo, you'll be fine ;)

2. There's a bathroom upstairs. You should check out this thread I created in which I included maps of the inside: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/359761-montreal-consulate-picturesmaps/page__p__5252525#entry5252525 Might help you ;) And if I remember correctly, there is a vending machine upstairs, so if you bring some case with you, you can eat and drink. And yes, there's a water fountain, right next to the bathrooms.

3. As for kids, they have a little play area in the sitting area upstairs with toys and such. Not sure how old yours kids are though. What you're bringing would be fine though.

The whole experience is painless and easy! After you'll laugh at yourself for being nervous. I sure did!

I think your pregnant lady hormones are getting to you :P (from one pregnant lady to another!)

Get there by 7:30 or 8AM the most. Do not carry cell phone or remote car starter or anything remote.

There are washroom available and you will have plenty of time to get your self settled while waiting.

They have kids playing area and one security personal makes sure they are playing and not fighting or screaming. :D

They have vending machines too in the waiting area.

No need to nervous. If you have all supporting docs and know your answer and nothing to hide. No need to panic.

I have been to TO consulate as well, they didn't let the water or juice inside, but were kind enough to let kid's sandwich inside.
