You will have to cancel your K-1 , and start from the beginning the CR-1 route. There is no transfer from K-1 to CR-1 as they are different visas. K-1 is non-immigrant, while CR-1 is immigrant.

We are currently in the process of a K1 visa but are considering getting married late September. Should the K1 not be completed by then is it possible to switch to a CR1 visa?

You can't switch. You have to start all over again. K-1 visa is for Fiance, not marriage. If you marry, then you have to file for a marriage visa, which means more money and more waiting.

So, why waste all the time and money? That's up to you.

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.
