Hello, i am 20 years old. I came to the U.S. illegally when i was 9 years old, i now have U visa through my dad, because he was a victim of a crime. Can i leave the country and re-enter legally? if so what's the process? Also i will be getting married soon to my girlfriend, she was born here, will i be able to qualify for adjustment of status through our marriage? since I entered the country illegally will i be able to adjust my status without leaving the country? Thanks in advance

Hi, From what I could understand, you can apply for adjustment of status on your own.

Check this links: http://immigration.lawyers.com/Non-Immigrant-Temporary-Visas/Crime-Victims-T-and-U-Visas-and-Status-Adjustment.html

Q: What are the procedures for such qualifying family members to apply for lawful permanent residence?

A: The U-1 status holder must file an immigrant petition on the new Form I-929, Petition for Qualifying Family Member of a U-1 Nonimmigrant. If the I-929 is approved on their behalf, qualifying family members in the U.S. may file Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. Qualifying family members outside the U.S. may visit a U.S. embassy or consulate to obtain their immigrant visas.

Best of luck!
