Oh I know I don't blame the CBP officer I told them I know they're just doing their job I get it.. It was just the way the officer handled us the first time was ridiculous.. Really you won't let my 2year old have a snack... But the worst part was when they checked my car they never buckled my daughters cars eat back up and I never noticed until the next day...

I get it you have to look everywhere but at least you could've mentioned to me that's never did it back up like maybe didn't know how to or whatever... But no not a word. Luckily I didn't have a long drive with her back home but that was really the scariest thing ever.

I can't imagine what that was like for you. I was in secondary with my mother for over 3 hours two years ago. Lack of ties. It felt horrible to feel like you're being treated like a criminal when you are perfectly innocent. When they finally told me I had to withdraw my application for entry, I had to beg for them to let me call my then fiance to tell him we'd be a no-show so he wouldn't drive to the airport to pick us up.

When I was asked at my K1 and AOS interviews if I had ever been denied entry and I said I had been once for "lack of ties", the IOs giggled a little as they told me they get that often. Nothing to worry about. Unless you lied to CBP, it won't affect your journey. Good luck!

US citizen since April 2016

ROC completed April 2014

AOS from K1 completed February 2012

It kinda depends on what you lied about. There are big deal lies, and little white lies. Like the old "I'm going to visit a friend" lie doesn't seem like much of an issue, its happened many times. Lying about something like your citizenship for example, can pose a problem. (And I'm not suggesting its ever OK to lie)

well i wasnt going to visit my fiance. it was my nephews birthday and i was going to the US to go to walmart and do some shopping! i denied my relationship with my fiance by saying i havnt seen him in longer than i had. he caught me on that one by finding paperwork of his in my car. i was just scared. and i regret it all..

they also tried to get me to admit that i had been working in the US illegally, because i sent boxes through UPS. SO NOT TRUE. i have never done anything except visit the US.

also i remember they asked me if i ever had any bills in my name at my fiances address and i replied no. i was so frazzled at that time trying to talk with the CBP and runnung after a 2 yr old the whole time. i forgot that i do pay his internet bill so that he can skype with me and the baby.

all in all it was aweful. i had never been pulled into secondary before this and i was all alone with the baby trying to talk with them and literally talk over a screaming hungry toddler whos trying to push buttons and stuff...

I think that's all you need to say, you were denied for lack of ties. Of course, if they ask you about any of the other stuff you will need to be honest. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I don't think anything you did or said is going to create much of a problem. But you're smart not to try and cross again until you have the visa, because you will most likely have problems.

You have a beautiful family by the way :)

Thank you so much! I can't wait until the day my family is together again. And thanks so much for saying that you don't think it will cause a problem.. Now that I think about it I'm sure it won't. But yes there is no way I am going to cross again until the visa is issued... I know I'll have problems that's why we decided its worth it now to go for the visa it will be worth it in the end so we can be together with no more problems of me having to come back to Canada.

Witherwings, make sure you also have you NOA2 with you when you travel. I had a very nice CO give me that information once when I crossed over at Whirpool (Nexus access only) in Niagra. He said always carry that notification with you when you are entering the US to show the CO that you have an application in progress. I also get a letter from my employer stating what days I will be absent from work and when I am expected back. I carry a small file folder of current bills, bank statement, employment letter and a copy of my confirmation of appointment and NOA2 when I cross over. I've only had an issue once and showed them this paperwork and then everything was fine.
