Yeah, I agree - bring what the letter says to bring. That, and a marriage certificate if you're married now. From my own experience and reading others, it will take you very little time. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes including filling out paperwork. I brought passport, state ID, SSN, marriage certificate, biometrics app letter, and the original NOA1s from EAD/AP/AOS.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

Did you actually need the marriage certificate? They asked to see it? I guess I may be missing something, but I can't see where or why you would need that for the biometrics appt.

The marriage certificate is your proof of name change. The biometrics appointment letter has your name on it, and they want your documents to reflect that name in the future. So if you filed AOS/EAD/AP in married name, then you'll need to show evidence of changing last name/being married.

Yes, I brought it along and they asked to see an official document proving my name change from maiden to married name. I had my SSN in married name as well but that wasn't the document they wanted to see. If you want the greencard and EAD to be in married name then indeed bring the marriage certificate. I brought a certified copy(seems to do the trick with those agencies - banks too). Either way, it's great to have a copy/certified copy laying around, either for biometrics appointment, name change, joint accounts, insurance etc.

Ahah...that makes sense in the case of a woman applicant. :)

Good to know.

It does yeah. I'm sorry I didn't look at username/profile to determine gender  However, a keeping a copy when going to these things won't be a bad idea since you're adjusting status based on marriage.

Some places accept a walk-in(doing biometrics days/weeks before your appointment without rescheduling, you can read up on that in Visa Journey searches or in reviews of that specific office). They stamp your biometric app. letter.

Good luck with your appointment. : )
