Hey VJ member,

We bought a house 30 miles away and so it's technically a move but within same state. We already have license showing new address but do I need to provide any additional proof showing we've been at the new home for at least 3 months? My first guess is that since we're in same state and our Local office is same, I don't need to provide any proof except maybe copy of both our licenses showing we live at the same house. But other that that, do I need to get into utility bills and stuff?

Did you file address change with USCIS? That should've been your first step.

As for the 3 months, that is not a restriction. That only applies when you move and that address is serviced by a different DO.

You should prepare to provide statements if they ask during the interview. However, DL copies, and your IRS returns (even if only filed) would be very helpful.

I think you never know what they are going to request so, yes, I would have more proof. I had my interview yesterday and the officer was very nice and professional. I took all originals (and copies) from the copies I had already submitted and more copies and originals from the period after I sent my application (I sent my application in April last year, but I have problems with my fingerprints that can't be read, so it always take longer for me). Well, making the long story short, she didn't ask to see the originals, she said the copies would be fine. She even said I had more than enough proof. :) You can use car, home, health insurance for example, I took copies of our federal and state check (from tax return since I didn't have our tax transcripts from 2011, only had tax return form. If you have bank statements, utility bills in both names, take what you have. This is valid if you are starting your petition, sending more proof (RFE) or going for interview.

I think it's always better safe than sorry, so this is my advice and I hope it helps and I wish you good luck. :)

Same here, I took several things with me originals and copies, but when I submitted I did the min required. When I was at my interview, the officer pulled a huge file that had everything since AOS. He didn't request anything from me, but it is always best to be over-prepared especially when you are at the interview.

I actually just did that at the beginning of this month. I had not realized we needed to do that till I started coming back to VJ for citizenship and realized I needed to do the change. Haven't filed the tax returns yet so nothing there either. Thanks for providing feedback, it's helpful and I appreciate you taking time to do so.

I do plan to send joint bank statements, last 3 years of joint tax returns's trascript, our joint stock accounts, copies of both of our DL, Deed of our house, etc. along with marriage certificate, spouse's naturalization certificate, etc. It's just that most of these stuff is in old addresses. We just didn't change the addresses as soon as we closed on new house because we are keeping both our old house and new house. So there was no rush to change address on everything. Now I wonder if they'll ask proof that we actually live in our new house. In any case, for now, I'll just send everything with old address and then mention in cover letter that I can bring additional documents to interview that will have our new address (and some usage of utilities).

Thanks a ton of details, very much appreciated!!

Probably by the time you have your interview, it would be after April 17, so you may get a yellow letter requesting 2011 Tax returns... but in case you don't get the request, I mentioned it in my previous post so you can actually remember to take it...

It will be very important since it will have the new address, and will show both you and your spouse on it...

Good luck!
