I have had a few questions now for weeks and have called the Moroccan Embassy in New York and left several emails with no replies. My husband's passport as expired and we want to send the documents in so we can at least get it back soon. According to the website to renew your passport they needed the passport photo to be on a blue or light gray background at 35mm by 45mm. Well we have asked all places that do passport photos and they said we are not allowed to do this but only on white background for U.S. passports.

Has anyone coming from Morocco had this issue???? If so, were you able to renew your passport with the US standard 2x2 photo on white background.... I know many countries require different background photos but this is just crazy that we cannot find anyone to do this.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated especially those coming from Morocco that has already renewed their passport via mail.

This might be a shot in the dark but have you tried a portrait studio? If you did this and got them to take the photo and then used a website to create the passport photo and then got it printed.

Like after the portrait use this website to turn it into a passport photo. http://www.epassportphoto.com/

Never even thought of that. This process is just crazy. The funny thing is, I just received an email not long after I posted this question. He guy told me we had to come to New York and then he could be fingerprinted and then could go down the street to get a photo.

They guy never even asked if we had all supporting documents that are required without having to get fingerprinted he just assumed as they all do in this process I guess. Anyways, I replied back and I guess we shall see what happens.

So I will keep in mind what your saying about the photos...thanks

My husband sent me the passport photos by Morocco's standard. I went to Walgreens and they scanned the pic then resized it to US standard and changed the background color. Perhaps they may do the same for you just in reverse anytime they say "we can't" I just ask for the manager.

Good luck

Walgreens is the place we went to today to get his picture taken once again for his renewal for his EAD which will expire in June. The girl there said many have called and asked for different color backgrounds but they offer no other color except white. We then went to the post office and of course they acted like they have never heard of such (like using another color). Went to another local place that does pictures and they too said nope. Maybe I will try another walgreens and see what they can do for us.

Thanks Miben...

The only time we needed to do a picture for them was the when "Mobile Consulate" came to town and they had set it up with the local CVS or Walgreens to have the correct specifications and background. If Walgreens won't do it try CVS. Costco does passport photos too. This can't be a foreign concept to these places, people need various-sized passport photos all the time for various reasons (students, visas).

I thought you had to come in person, too, to be fingerprinted, which is why they're sending out those "Mobile consulates" (the next one is in Orlando in April).

Also, you should have your husband call them and keep calling until he talks to a live person. Leaving messages has never seemed to help.

Thanks I will try CVS too. Yes, your right about these local places should do difference specifications and background colors.

Today, I received another email from the Consulate in N.Y. I actually cannot believe they emailed me back twice now in regards to my questions. The man told me that my husband did not need to be fingerprinted since he had the new biometric I.D. done in Morocco last year. All we have to do now is send the required copies and application. However, there are other things the website does not tell you, like you have to have a consular card + fee and be registered here before you can renew your passport. Also, no checks are accepted only money orders and, you have to send in a self prepaid mail envelope so they can also send your passport back to you and the only form of mail accepted by the Consulate is US Post Office Express mail as well.

I finally found all this information on some other immigration page and they were very helpful and directed me with all the answers necessary to file and renew his passport. Nevertheless, the colored background is still an issue, but the consulate is suppose to call me via what they said on the email.

Every Moroccan national, who resides in the USA must be registered at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in New York to get a CONSULAR CARD.

Anyways, hopefully now we can send all the renewal stuff soon.

In the FAQ's section of the Consulate's website it does say everything you have just mentioned. You probably just did not read that section. :luv:
