Now I'm dying for popcorn. ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH. There is someone on this floor who makes popcorn every day to eat at her desk and the smell is just killing me. By the time I get home I'm not hungry anymore. Now see if I could think of some way to market the concept of "The Food Fantasy Diet" I wouldn't need this job. You would spend so many hours sitting in hunger fantasizing about all those naughty foods you want to devour and by the time your hunger dies you're allowed to go snuffle about in a salad or something...

Yep. Same here. "Customer Service Appreciation Week." Free ice cream Tuesday, luncheon yesterday, now today they wanted to know if I wanted to order lunch out with them. *beating forehead against the desk* They make the BEST cheeseburgers. *whimpers* Oh dammit, I'm going to just sit with the waste can over my head and take it off when they're all done eating around me. Feel free to walk by and bang on it. Maybe the funny "whumpy" noise will give me comfort.

(I am grateful, I am grateful, I am grateful...)

Do I break fast if I lick my desk or suck on a paperclip? (I know I know...)

We had a staff meeting yesterday and they ordered out to my favorite Thai place and ate an hour before in the conference room. At one point they started talking about me and I heard a few people comment on how "barbaric" it was that I can't even have water. I felt bad. :( They've never talked about me before in that way. Oh well. I know that I have to answer to Allah in the end and not to them.

Its easy to call something "barbaric", especially when those people are thinking "man, I could never manage that." ;) There is only one person in my office that knows I'm fasting. I just don't talk about it because I am kind of burned out on the ignorance factor at this time.

The girl in the cubbie next to me has been eating $%#^%$ chips for like a freakin' hour now.

If she doesn't stop the crunching and the gulping (diet coke) would it be non-muslim of me to #$#$ slap the #$$% out of her?

I think we should all take a very important lesson from this... that is part of why we fast after all...

When I feel so hungry or thirsty while fasting, I start thinking about how I will be able to eat a wonderful meal tonight following the call to prayer BUT there are a LOT of people who haven't had anything to eat today (NOT EVEN SUHOOR :o ) and they won't have anything tonight either, simply because they can't afford food. Most of those people who will go to sleep tonight with nothing on their empty bellies are children which makes it all that much more worse. :(

We take things like food for granted (especially us Americans) every minute of every day.

Think about how much food each of us has wasted over the past year because we were full and just threw it out..... remember that wasted food now while you don't have anything to eat or drink.

Maybe it's a good opportunity to edumacate some of them a little. Fasting isn't barbaric, it's a good idea and is a part of many cultures and religions. The Greek Orthodox calendar is about 50% fasting days, the Native Americans regularly use fasting. Even the Catholics 'no meat on Fridays is a form of fasting. :)

I am Greek Orthodox and our fasts are hard. Meauxna is right, 50% of our year is fasting. Yes we can eat, but its soooo limited. Grains & Veggies. Its really hard to do because you can't have any animal products at all.
