Given the date of your I-94 expiry you will now have to wait until you get the GC or EAD card before SSA will issue you a SSC. You should have applied for the SSC right after arriving in the US even before you got married. Typically VJ members recommend you wait two weeks after arriving to make certain you are in the SAVE database. You have unitl two weeks before your I-94 expires to get a SSN based on the K-1 visa. After that time period you will need the GC or EAD card to get a SSN. If you had gone in earlier, we at VJ could have told you what to do if you had problems getting the SSN as most SSA local offices do not know about the K-1 and there are lots of stories on this board about how people are treated. All I can do now is tell you to wait and hope others reading this and are applying for AOS from a K-1 will realize just how important the SSN is and to apply for it ASAP after arriving in the US.

People have had problems getting the SSC in the married name as the first card--you are SUPPOSED to be able to do it but most of the time it is recommended getting the SSC in the maiden name so it matches the K-1 and I-94 and passport and then go back and get the name changed using the marriage certificate. The most important thing is to get the SSN as it is used for all kinds of things in the US and then change the name to match your ID. Most people never show the SSN to anybody, but I have heard that there are a lot of DMVs that want to see it or verify the name before issuing a DL. YMMV.

Sorry I have no good news for you but to wait,

Dave
