Since my interview will be on Apirl at Garden City, my wife(USC) asked me to call the FBI to check the status of my backgroud (she doesn't want the backgroud check holding me back, since we have been waiting for more than 2 years).

I called in today, there was a very nice lady helped me. we had some confusion at first place, she thought that i filed that my finger prints by myself, later on i told her that i did my f/p in new york and i believe USCIS filed to FBI. she asked for my A#, and checked on the computer, a minute later, she told me that FBI sent my F/P results back to USCIS same day as USCIS sent to FBI, only took less than A DAY. she said my F/P is clear from FBI, then i asked her what about my backgroud check, she said it is ok but not sure the USCIS has finished their backgroud check for me. anyway, she said my F/P is clear from FBI.

how come my F/P went back that fast? will it suppose to take a few weeks/months to complete from FBI? why mine was so fast? don't understand. should i call them back again to double confirm?

kind of strange.

thanks for help

F/P check results come back pretty quickly (usually same day they are submitted for processing) because fingerprints are unique. If a hit comes up then it is your hit. No hit is very good as it means you are in the clear.

On the other hand, the name check can take longer because there are some names that are common. A hit on a name will give rise to a manual check. This manual check is the one that could take weeks or months depending on how many hits came up.

You should not worry as you will find out whether your background check is done when you go to your interview.

Chrisz...what number did you use to get a hold of the FBI office? Just your local office?
