are passports taken after the interview?

Hi everyone,

My wife finished her interview and my question was is it normal for the immigration to take her and my children's passports? the thing about it was the interviewer didn't say your approved but she said that they need form I-684w for my oldest daughter so when she enters she will be a natural born citizen, so i assume that the visa's are approved. secondly, how long does it take for my wife and children to receive their visa's? this was in the Philippines, and i am very new to this stuff i really appreciate the feedback

Well, my girl had interview in Bogota Colombia and they took her passport. I guess you can not have two as with drivers licenses when you get one in a new state they make you give up the old one. I wondered the same thing so I guess thats the procedure.

If they don't take the passport they don't get a visa - Its stamped in the passport and they need the passport to stamp it.

Yep it is normal. The officer must print and glue the visa on an inside page of the passport. My wife's took 7-8 days, guess it depends on the backlog.

The embassy has to take their passport. US Embassy needs their passport to put in their approved visa. But you mentioned that the lady requires an additional for for your daughter. Ask your wife if she received a paper stating the required additional document. If yes, she has to submit those documents.

thanks for all the replies. im not good with paper work. I haven't seen my family for over a year, im really anxious for this to be done and over with.
