I know this is a long shot but has ANYONE on here requested a police report from Cairo? Or known of anyone who has?

We sent the request, via the Egyptian Consulate in Manila, a few weeks ago. They said approx a month, but with all the BS going on over there, I would not be surprised if they didn't ever get around to such a request, they have bigger worries than our police report request. Its pretty depressing to think that this police report could really jack up our process, which has been moving pretty quickly, we have the interview scheduled for this month and she is doing the physical at St. Lukes next week.

I wished there was an option the USEM could do if the police report requesting country is in political turmoil. The police background check isn't required by NVC, but by the USEM only.

I had a similar issue when I was applying for a police report from Bahrain last year when they where having major trouble. I got in touch with everyone possible, Bahrain Embassy, US Embassy and the issuing department in Bahrain to see if there was anything I could do as it looked like waiting on the police report would severely delay the process. However, as they were still issuing the certificates although severely delayed there wasn't much that could be done but wait. The only thing that they suggested is that it might be quicker if I went in person to Bahrain to get it....I was all set to do that and lucky enough my certificate came through eventually. Maybe if you call the issuing department in Cairo they might be able to advise if there are such options?

Good luck

Thanks Kim..my fiance has been calling the Egyptian consulate in Manila but not directly to Cairo. I had asked her about possibility of doing that very thing last week. She only said she called the consulate in Manila. She has friends who still are working in Cairo, I asked if maybe they could go and pick it up, but apparently its not that easy.

I hear you on that... Turkey is a pretty quiet place but I'm VERY afraid the freezing of diplomatic relationship between France and Turkey these days is going to affect my request. I applied for the pcc at the Turkish Consulate in mid-December... still waiting.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do but wait. In case you don't have the pcc in time for the interview, emphasize the troubles in Egypt which may make your document temporarily unobtainable. See what they say...

I just looked on the US Embassy London website...I assume the information will be the same from the US Embassy in Manila. This is what they wrote regarding the waiting times for certificates from Eqypt

Police Records

Available. Police certificates are obtainable by both Egyptians and non-Egyptians who were born in, or who permanently reside, or have resided in Egypt. The Police Certificate, called a "Criminal Status Record" (Saheefat al Hala al Gina'iyya), may be obtained upon application to the police station nearest the applicant's place of residence in Egypt, and normally takes between one and five working days. Applicants are fingerprinted on the reverse side of the application form. The certificate will indicate if the applicant has served prison time, but will not indicate detentions, arrests or convictions without imprisonment. An applicant abroad must apply to the nearest Egyptian consular officer who will fingerprint them and forward their applications to the Ministry of Interior, Cairo. Upon completion, the report is sent to the applicant. The latter procedure usually involves considerable delay. Since the certificates are eventually issued, they must be considered available.

Yes Kim, thanks, we've read that before too....ugh.

I will call, or have fiance call, USEM on Monday to see if they have any suggestions.
