What time should you show up at the Embassy in the morning for your interview?

Is it ok to bring drinks or snacks?

You are not allowed to bring any food during the interview process. Just need to bring all the necessary documents to bring during the interview.

What time should you show up at the Embassy in the morning for your interview?

The Appointment letter will have the time your fiancee needs to be at USEM. Get there 30 mins prior to the actual time as there will be a line. Also the petitioner is not allowed into the embassy until 7:30 AM. They will send you through a different entrance and security check. Once through, you will be in the waiting area with the canopy. Wait there until 7:30 AM and then you can enter the embassy to be with her.

Is it ok to bring drinks or snacks?

In the waiting area they have a snack cart with chips, soda, hot dogs, etc...

You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy/Consulate while carrying any of the following items:

battery-operated or electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital diaries, digital watches, pagers, cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3s, floppy disks, laptops, or portable music players

large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted

bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders - you can only carry plastic bags containing application-related papers

food items (refreshments are available for purchase in the waiting area)

sealed envelopes or packages

cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters

sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files

weapons or explosive materials of any kind

If you need your cell phone they will ask you to check it in at the security section. They will give you a card so you can retrieve at the end of interview.

My wife's (fiancee at the time) interview was summer of 2010. I went with her to the interview, and they never separated us. We arrived at about 6am (2-3 hours early), and I'm glad we did. The whole process took about 5 hours. No snacks or water allowed in from outside.

I know a lot of people like to arrive hours early for their appointment but I have no idea why. Yes, you might finish sooner but you will spend more time waiting than others - what's the point? We arrived half an hour ahead of our appointed time and spent less time overall waiting than those who stood in line forever.
