Hi Everyone,

I'm getting ready to file my affidavit of support in sponsoring my husband from Spain. I realize that I need to submit my past 3 tax year's information and that I must make 125% above the poverty line. I currently make well above that level, but within those 3 tax years, only made above that level for 1 year (I was in grad school). My question is - will it be necessary to get a joint sponsor? Or will that fact that I'm currently making a high salary be enough? I would hate to only submit my information only later to receive an RFE and have the process held up longer than it needs to be. After all, he is so far away and we have already been apart so long! Any advice anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

Similar situation, we got the cosponsor just in case. But I've heard for certain embassies current salary is what they mostly look for.

thanks for the response, seems we're both in a bit of an undefined area. as i don't have a lawyer helping me, i have no one to ask for this advice. i was thinking about getting the co-sponser just in case, as this process is long enough without even without receiving any RFE's. i would hate to make it longer than it already is.

Felanai,

From the information that I've received, the embassy in Madrid looks at current salary, however, if you wish to get a joint sponsor just in case, it won't hurt your case, on the contrary.

Good luck!!

Your fine, current salary is above the 125% level. One of my tax years the income did not meet the guidelines. Plus you will get a letter from your employer which will state the annual income for 2012 that also show your income well above the 125%.. Don't worry

SanFeliuGuixols,

Thanks for your response. I couldn't help but notice that you're immigrating from Spain too (my husband is from Pamplona). You also sent your I-130 in 2 weeks after I did and already have been approved. So lucky - I'm still waiting on the NOA2 (two months and counting). How did you manage to get it approved so fast?

Thanks!

Thanks!

I inquired about the possible motives of the speedy approval and was told by other VJ members that some motives could be: 1) Beneficiary is from a low-risk country, 2) I'm residing in the same country as the beneficiary, 3) Just pure luck, 4) Unknown reasons

As much as I'd wish there was a direct answer, I'm sorry I'm not able give you any further information.
