Police Certificate

Hello VJ,

My I-130 and I-129F applications are with CSC and they are not approved yet. My husband lives in India and I want him to get the police certificate now but we do not know how to start. Where can I find the instructions on getting the police certificate? Please help. Thanks in advance.

The PCC could be submitted to NVC with rest of documents when you are at that stage.

Passport office or Police office in Mumbai would not issue a PCC without interview letter from consulate.

PCC can be obtained quite easily from Passport Seva Kendra, better known as PSK. All you gotta do is google PSK, go to the link, and find ur nearest PSK in Mumbai. Fill out the online application form and upload, then fix up an interview date, and go for the interview. You'll get your PCC in a couple of hours at most. I got mine done just yesterday, so you can take my word on that.

Seems Mumbai does not have a Seva Kendra, one has to go thru the passport office.

If it takes about 6-8 weeks to get the PCC, I think it is better for my husband to get it now. Can he get the PCC with out the visa interview letter?

You can try... police and passport office did ask for interview letter when I tried. Another thing is normally they are valid for 6 months from issue so then you don't want to apply far too ahead of time either.

If your spouse has passport issued in Mumbai his passport PCC would be quicker, my passport was issued in US so it took little longer for me to get passport clearance.

Police clearance is 4-5 weeks if you follow up with them, I dont tthink you need to rush, you should have plenty of the time to get them done.

This all depends on where the passport is issued.

Indian govt is crazy .. they just love to verify their own work over and over....

If passport is issued in Mumbai then it might be faster, but if passport is issued anywhere else its gonna take longer time.

Mumbai passport office is crazy.... their hours are crazy.. the lines there are crazy.... no proper information available its just horrible, I hope they streamline Mumbai office like other cities too.

meaning how many months of validity should it have on it? or can it be fine if it is valid on the day of interview when submitting?

I did not understand your question completely but,PCC should be valid for 6 months from date it was issued means the Consulate would believe you did not commit a major crime in that 6 months and there are no case pending against you in India.

So as long as you do your interview between the date it was issued and the six months from then, you should be good.
