Is this the K-1 visa? Usually they send you packet 3, which includes a list of doctors they approve of, so usually after you receive all that paperwork you can go ahead and schedule!

Since Bogota refers you to their website to get the packets... how soon can you schedule the medical? In other words, is there a medical that they won't accept? Does it have to be within X number of days prior to the interview?

As soon as you schedule your interview you can go to the doctor. There is not a time frame... I remember one of the doctors office recommend maximum 2 weeks prior to the appointment. If the beneficiary has kids, they may need the tuberculousis test which takes an extra 4 day to determine if the children also need chest X-rays.

Also I remember that when I called the only doctor that had time available before my interview was Doctor Dennis. So it would be a good idea to call as soon as you have paid your visa nterview to schedule the appointment for the doctor.

Hi: I read in the consular review section of VJ that some people did their medical a couple days before their visa interview in Bogota. They went to the lab in the morning for some tests and to the Doctor in the evening of the same day. They then went to the interview 2 days later. Is this advisable? How did other people schedule their medical and interview? Thanks, Orando

I am not sure if there is a maximum number of days before the interview that a medical can be taken. But what I would recomend is this: after paying for the visa fees and before scheduling the interview, look at the interview dates available then call the doctor's office to schedule. The doctor we preferred had no available appointments for almost the next 6 weeks when we were trying to book our interview.

As soon as the interview has been scheduled with the embassy the beneficiary can call one of the doctors to make their medical appointment. If you're going for a CR/IR visa, you will find out the date of the interview from the National Visa Center. If you're going for a K visa you will schedule the interview online. Because most people live outside of Bogotá they usually make their medical appointment no later than two days before their interview so they can get everything done in one trip. People who already live in Bogotá can have their medical done any time after the interview is scheduled.

Hi Mononoke28, I just received notice that my petition was approved. My Fiance is also from Colombia(Barranquilla). So just to confirm, is it possible to schedule the Medical exam say on a Monday and have the interview at the embassy in Bogota the following Friday? What about the other tests they require like chest xrays. Is there enough time to get all that done in the same week? We are trying to avoid two trips to Bogota if it's possible.

Jon,

As soon as you know the interview date you can go ahead and make the appointment with one of the doctors. No appointment is necessary for the lab tests but they do open at 7 A.M. and most people start lining up after 6 A.M., so it's important to get there early. Also, the lab will be able to deliver the results to the doctor that same day if the doctor's appointment is later that afternoon and if the lab tests were done very early that same morning, so you can go ahead and get both done the same day.

My fiancee already went for her labs, medicals, and vaccinations in Bogota even though we're still waiting to get an interview. She was told the medicals are good for 6 months, so as long as we get our interview (and we are granted a visa), we should be ok. Most people schedule the medical tests after getting an interview, but I wanted to get them out of the way ahead of time...

Then they must have changed their policy because the first thing they ask, or used to ask is if the beneficiary had a scheduled interview at the embassy and then they would ask for the BGT number.
