Who is your friend filing for? Since you are posting this in the spousal visa forum, if he is filing for his wife, no kids or other dependants, according to this: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=73c63591ec04d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD he needs to make a minimum of $18'387.

Or a friend :) Ie, your friend needs to count himself plus your immigrant husband = 2 people household.
