Question about Police Certificates in Brazil

And yes, e-mail them and ask. Keep the question simple (yes/no question), as they tend to give very short answers to question asked. Also, you can print out the e-mail with their reply and have it with you when you have the interview so you have their answer in written in case they question the certificates you've gotten.

I've email the Rio Consulate and here is the answer I got from them:

"Bom dia,

gostaria de esclarecer duas dúvidas a respeito dos atestados de bons antecedentes da polícia estadual (SSP).

Eu preciso de atestados de todos os estados em que vivi desde os 16 anos ou apenas os que eu morei nos últimos 5 anos?

SOMENTE DOS ULTIMOS 5 ANOS.

Segundo arquivo encontrado no site do consulado, atestados da SSP no Distrito Federal não são disponíveis. Como devo agir neste caso?

NAO E REQUERIDO O ATESTADO DO D.F."

I don't know if this might be useful to anyone going through other consulates, but just in case, they said we only need a state police record for the last 5 (five) years.
