My fiance is in Egypt.. He is in a university still and hasnt done his army duty.. im curious if anyone knows if he can travel while still in school? or if he must finish his army before traveling. We would rather he continue his schooling in the states. but if he needs to finish the army first i would rather he stop the schooling and start the army to get it out of the way. thanks for any input :)

Does he know if he is required to serve in the military yet? If not, it's possible that he may not have to serve. I know several men that were exempted, including my husband. This question is probably one that your fiance should ask the military. You really need a definitive answer.

He just finished papers to delay army service until he finished school. So he doesnt have an answer for sure if he is serving or not. I dont think he would have an answer until he applied into the army. Thats why im a little confused im wondering if he could just be able to travel without any army duty while he was in school..but thanks for the response ill ask him if he can get a for sure answer even while he is in school

The first question is: did you file the I-129F to petition for him? If you did, things may change a bit.

I do not know anything about the rules and regulations with the military and school. I have a friend that wasn't allowed to travel because he was in the university. Have him do thorough research and then build an action plan. Again, the first thing you need to know is, if you filed a petition for him and you want him to come to the US to visit you on a tourist visa, chances are he'll be denied. There again, if you're planning a holiday vacation in Italy, then you'll need to check his visa requirements for that country.

Good luck.

I'm not sure if you are aware of this but if he goest to the army it will take 2 years to complete and you will not see him. If he is a student, in order for the army/millitary to allow him to leave the country, he will need to provide them with a letter from the university stating that he is a current student and will be coming back to Egypt to finish his study. Military service in Egypt is mandatory. I also suggest he takes the letter from school with him to the interview. After, that when he will be getting ready to travel to the usa, he needs to go to the military and get a paper stating he can leave the country. My husband is going through the same situation right now. Men under the age 30, are required by law to complete their military service however, there are couple ways to get arround it if: he is the only son he is not required to join, current student with intend to complete military at a later time, or medical illness which provents him from compliting service. Good luck.

this is valuable information. Thank you for sharing.

My fiance is an only son, so he was exempt from completing his military service.

It would be from the university in Egypt; yes since the military service is mandatory he will need a proof that he is active student and later on will finish the military service. so he will need to find a way to get some papers from school even though he is not attending...
