I came to the United States when I was 22 years old as tourist. At that time I had no idea what Selective Service was, so obviously i didn't register. I got my green card when I was 28, and the Selective Service topic didn't come up at that time either. I found out about this requirement when I was researching about Citizenship, but as you know it was too late. I contacted SSS, but their letter stated that I was required to register, even though my tourist visa was expired and I had no legal status for few years. I applied for citizenship already and sent a notice I received from SSS and my written statement about failure to register. I already went through biometrics and waiting for the interview, but I am afraid that my ignorance and not registering will cause some problems. I am already 33 years old, and I read that if you are over 31 it should not be an issue. Has anyone been in situation like this? Please help!

Thank You

Happy New Year!

Here is information from an attorney in Ca., http://shusterman.com/naturalizationselectiveservice.html This is very lengthy article, you may want to seek the advise of counsel ( hate to admit that). If a male naturalization applicant between 26 and 31 years of age failed to register with Selective Service, the naturalization examination must be continued to give the applicant an opportunity to obtain evidence that his failure to register was not knowing and willful or that he was not required to register, etc.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
