K-1 Co-Sponsor in Manila??

I have read a couple of post saying that US Embassy in Manila will allow a co-sponsor for anyone currently enrolled in an university or that is a recent graduate?

Is this true? Does anyone know someone who was allowed to use a co-sponsor to make up for lower income levels? Is it a co-sponsor on the I-134 or I-184?

Yes it is allowed. I know of two couples who were on the same boat. Recent graduates and no previous income. They both got immediate relatives

to be their co-sponsors for the I-134 and they were approved. The I-864 will be dealt with later on when the beneficiary is in the US and is adjusting status.

The thread you linked to does not say that the USEM will allow a cosponsor for "anyone currently enrolled in a university or that is a recent graduate."

The closest it comes to saying that is VJ member JimVaPhuong's statement:

"However, they might make an exception if the sponsor has a very good reason for having insufficient income and have a good potential for much better future earnings (a college student or recent graduate, for example)..."

Exactly, exceptions are not just for college students or recent graduates. It's a case by case basis and it's up to the CO's discretion to make sure the beneficiary will not likely become a public charge. Cosponsors can be used for Manila, but it's a case by case basis and the Embassy pretty much tells you not to rely on a cosponsor if you're applying for a K1 Visa.

There was another guy, The_Sage1, who was way below the 125% poverty level, but was able to use his parents as cosponsors. There was a friend of a popular user here who had a friend who made very little as well and was able to use his dad as a cosponsor.

I think judging from what I gather so far, I am ASSUMING they are more lenient towards you IF you are 1. Petitioner is Filipino 2. Parent or close relative is the cosponsor 3. Young, 20ish. 4. Recent college graduate/student 5. Sees potential in the couple to earn more money in the future, especially if beneficiary has a degree that has earning potential in the US (Nursing, Doctor, etc.)

Again, this is based off assumptions and the US Embassy does not condone the use of cosponsors, but they advise you not to use/rely on one either.

what is considered 125% of the poverty level? Is there a magic chart somewhere that will show this information? I just recently started working as a nurse. My fiance who is also a fresh graduate nurse is going for his interview sometime in the next 2 months.

Im confused in trying to calculate how many would be in my particular household. I live with my parents, who have their own income. My fiance will be living with us until we can move out. Does that mean there are two in my household? me and my fiance (when he comes) ?

It appears that your household size is two-- you and your fiancé.

However, if you claimed any dependents on your income tax return, they would count in your household size also. So would unmarried children under 21 years old whether they were living with you or not.
