Extended the passport before the interview

Hello VJs members,

My interview is on 22nd November for K1 visa. I wanted to extend my passport. Then went to a local police station but they told me i have to get a new one and if i apply they ll cancelled the old one. I filled the forms for the visa with my current passport and sent a copy of it. It is extended till June,2012. So what should i do? Will it cause a problem for me to have a new one and go to the appointment with both of them. Or i shouldnt do anything and wait till i arrive to US?

Your passport needs to be valid for a period of six months when they issue the visa so you may be right on the line. If they can issue a new one in time and they will let you keep the old one it might not be a bad idea. Worst case they may tell you to get a new one at the interview before they issue the visa.
