Hi everyone,

We just got our interview date in the mail today (woohoo!). Now I am starting to torture myself and go over all our documents and forms over and over. Maybe because there's nothing to do but wait that I am starting to feel slightly neurotic!

My dad is my joint sponsor-- he's employed and makes well over 125% of the poverty guideline as required per household size. I have copies of his 1040's (all filed on time) and all w2's for the 3 most recent tax years and copies of his pay stubs.

Question is: Do you think I should have him get transcripts as well, just as a precaution? I mean I am one for following directions down to the ground and it states you don't need transcripts if returns have been filed on time and you have the W2's but, you see, paranoia is setting in...

Can anyone please put my mind at ease?

Those tax forms ect you speak of could be fine. However they prove he filled out forms. Transcripts prove he filed the taxes & owes nothing. Safer to use the transcripts.

I did. When I asked our (different) embassy about it, they said "that MIGHT be enough." So, I decided to go for overkill and get the extras anyway. It's a really easy process; you just request them online using your DOB, address, and SSN; they arrived in four or five days; and free. No reason not to.

Thanks for your replies! I actually had to order transcripts for myself because I filed late (they say in the I-864 instructions you only need the transcripts if filing late). But I'll get my dad's too just in case. I'd rather be safe than sorry!!
