My husband's visa was approved this past week and we already received the visa in the mail! Hoorah! The two of us are headed back to the US in January after Christmas. Yay!

One question: The packet with the visa did not contain our original documents (birth cert, marriage certificate, etc)---are those in the sealed envelope? Or do they come in a separate packet? Or did they forget to mail them to us?

If you didn't request them back they are probably in the sealed envelope and now part of your file.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

I thought you are supposed to get them back. So why would we need to request them back? I'm interested in this answer too since handing over originals to the government is a big thing. It doesn't seem logical for them to keep it. Too many people would be talking about how they needed to get another set of "originals" for future purposes. Does anyone know for certain?

Its happened to quite a few people on VJ who did not request the originals back, they include the originals to your file.

At my interview even for a K-1 when presenting the originals I asked for all original documents back and the interviewer said do you have copys of the originals if not they need to be kept in your file. I handed copys of all the originals and they returned the originals to me.

Wow! That is really good to know. Thanks for sharing! We will definitely bring the copies to the interview!
