Hi everyone,

I got married civilly to a U.S. citizen last year in New Jersey and had a Church wedding here in the Philippines. I have asked the National Statistics Office on the requirements of registering our marriage contracted abroad since this is also a requirement when changing my passport to maiden name to married name, but I have never received a proper reply from them. I am right now in the Philippines, does anyone know the process on how to register here? Where do I go? What requirements are needed? I prefer to register it here in Cebu rather than the Philippine Consulate in NY.

Thanks!

I do believe you will need to go through the consulate. We did and there were no issues. NSO will look for the Consulate to know if the marriage certificate is correct based upon the local requirements in the US.

When you had a church wedding in the Philippines, did you file for the necessary papers like the marriage license and marriage certificate? Because if you did, then this would be enough for you to change your name in your Passport. If you still want to do a report of marriage, this is done through the Philippine Consulates in the US depending on which area you (or you're spouse) are living. You might want to see this link from the Philippine Consulate General website explaining the process of Reporting a Marriage.

I hope this helps.
