Ni Hao,

Jane has her interview on 8/30 and as she has been homeless since last November she is eager to get back to the US. Is the 2 to 7 day wait time on the K-1 visa still accurate? BobbyA mentioned that they were mailing visas to some cities. Can she wait in Guangzhou to pick it up or is it not optional. I'm getting a lot of pressure to book her flight. Any thoughts from the newly approved?

Thanks

Ni Hao Chris,

There's no telling when visas are mailed out. I don't think anyone can be sure, unfortunately.

Several people had to go through a final background check before getting their visas. A few get it in 2 days, I read someone got it the day after interview. Some waited anywhere from 7 to 20 days or longer.

Yes, waiting in Guangzhou is still an option. I would much rather wait in Guangzhou myself (although they started mailing out visas to 268 cities starting this month), but that's gambling that they'll issue her visa in a timely manner. Immediately after my fiancee's interview, she had to go to a counter outside the interview hall to pay for postage to mail her visa. It was a Tuesday and she saw a sign read something like "the earliest you can pick up your visa is Friday." So it is officially a 3-day wait to pickup a visa at the Guangzhou post office. She didn't get hers on Friday. She got hers on the following Monday.

I personally would not buy Jane's tickets until she has her visa in hand :). If I (the USC) were in Guangzhou, I would go to the consulate personally if my fiancee is unable to track her EMS number online by the 3rd day.

Tell Jane to take my advice once more to be patient and wait another week. Tell her she owes me one anyway. Remind her about my advise on her P3 :D

I couldn't resist replying you. Your title "Visa in hand" caught my attention big time. Then I saw my name mentioned, so all the more I had to reply :D

Here's wishing Jane a PINK on 8/30!! :)

Bobby

Chris,

My fiancee told me a Chinese website she visits says visa approvals are given out on WHITE sheets of paper instead of pink these days. So if Jane gets approved and handed a piece of white paper, tell her not to be alarmed. "White" is now the "new pink" :D

RFE is still in blue.

It took about a week, do not book a flight till it is in hand. So China Air has a direct fling to LA, but you live in the East. My recommendation is the shortest most direct flight meet her at hr4e POE.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Hey - that's great !!! 'Visa in hand' always means yer lass has picked up the visa packet, so maybe you jumped the gun a bit, anxious with anticipation or just @#@%@#ing happy that her visa application was approved at the interview. I know I'd be ecstatic, you betcha, if'n it was my lass.

The visa will be sent to the place SHE indicated on the EMS mailing label. Find out FROM HER which address she used, then you can sorta kinda figure things out for process and processing by calling the DoS hotline - see http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/ - Dodi's posted how to call and to whom - further down I've posted the list of timeticks, what you can get, when you can get it, and from whom.

In essence, though - the timetick yer chasing after, at DoS, is 'visa packet sent' - But that doesn't mean for GUZ IV that it's left the mailroom yet. It only means the packet has been lobbed into the mailroom . Figure 1 to 3 days in the mailroom, then it'll leave the building via EMS, on it's way to the address SHE put on the EMS form, on interview day.

Also, note specifically for this shipment out of GUZ IV - EMS online tracking is off a bit, is not anything real time - so if she had it sent to the 'standard post office address in Guangzhou' then the first time it shows up in EMS tracking - it's prolly already at the Special Post Office.

Good Luck, and congratulations !

My wife had her interview on Tuesday and got the VISA on Thursday! I bought her ticket before she received it 3 weeks out. I didn't want to wait I gambled on a change fee.

She can wait and pick it up in Guangzhou or they will mail it to any city in China now. Either way just tell her to keep the original receipt for the EMS package. This is what she needs to get her visa. Not sure about the white vs pink slip now. In June and early July it was still pink and the rejections were still white so no idea when or if it has really changed.
