I am having a disagreement with an immigration attorney concerning

the necessity of submitting English translations with official documents

as part of the DS-230 application to NVC.

I quote from the NVC website:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

Translation Requirements

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in

which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and

submitted to the NVC........."

My case pertains to an Italian citizen living in Italy. Therefore, the "official language of the

country in which application for a visa is being made" is Italian. Therefore, English translations

would NOT be required. Is this correct?

If anyone can clear up this point for me I would be extremely grateful! Thank you!!

From the embassy website... reads the same as the state.gov website regarding translations.

http://italy.usembassy.gov/visa/iv/application.html

"Translations

All documents not in English or Italian must be accompanied by certified English translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator, which states that the translation is accurate, and that the translator is competent to translate."

Looks like Italian is ok
