My wife will be in the 90 day window for filing for citizenship. During this time she went back to her country for just less then 1 year to take care of her sick mother. When we complete the N400 do I need to send a copy of my IRS 1040 with the application? If so, do I need to just send the 1 year that is in question or send all the 1040's since married and filing joint? Also, is there anything else that I should send? I don't have rent or mortgage payments, so nothing can be sent. We do both own 1 other house together. Would sending the tax bill with both names help? Thanks

N-400 is a citizenship test. She takes a written, verbal and speaking test.

There is a guide for filing. http://www.visajourney.com/content/naturalization_guide

If I'm not mistaken, those months that she spent out of the US will add to her 3-year period, so she cannot file just yet.

Three years of taxes filed jointly.

House papers showing both names.

It's all in the instructions for N-400, really, read them.

Use the eligibility checklist contained in one of those links. As long as she had not been out of country for more than 18 months total, or one year at any one time, that will not affect the three year period.

Oh okay, I wasn't sure if it was more than six months or more than one year. That's why I said "if I'm not mistaken".

Thanks for the reply's so far. I guess I need to send off for the IRS papers. As for the house that we own, would it help to send copy of tax bill? I just don't want them to delay the process. Thanks

Property tax bill is fine as long as it has both your and your wife's names on it.
