Does anyone know about obtaining police clearance from ahmedabad passport office? They are asking my wife to change her middle name from her father and reissue another passport under her new married name with my name as her middle name. Will this effect her Visa or her coming here? because all her forms were filled out under her Fathers maiden name. Is there anythings that needs to be done?

Hi Blizzard786,

I am also worried about this. My wife will have to get her PCC from Ahmedabad passport office as well; and we used her fathers name as her middle name to be consistent with her passport. Please keep us/me updated as this info will hep us/me.

We are currently waiting for our NVC Case #. =(

The lawyer we talked to in India recommended that if my wife had a passport already to delay all paperwork and get her name changed on the passport to mine first. He said this would save us a great deal of work in the long run. I have seen several of these threads pop up for the same situation.

Thank God my wife did not have a passport and her first was with my name as the middle name.

I can not give any advice to this guys... but I hope it works out for you with the least amount of stress and run around.

Good Luck!

The name on the Passport and the Visa should be same. Why are the Ahmedabad Passport insisting on name change, which is not manadtory! What is her name in the copy marraige certificate submitted to USCIS!

Spent the better half of yesterday and today searching this topic. Found posts from previous VJers that came across the same issue; but couldn't find any posts with a "solution". It seems that my wife (beneficiary) will need to get a new passport taking on my name. We still haven't sent our DS-230 so not I'm even more confused what to put on that...

Here's the situation:

- My wife already has a passport with her fathers name as her middle name.

- We filed the I-130 using her fathers name as her middle name (so the document matches her passport).

- From what it looks like Ahmedabad Passport Office will require her to change her passport to take on my name (husband/petitioner).

- Today on my NOA2 I noticed that they use my name as her middle name (initial at least: Dimpal A. <- 'A' for my name).

Now I'm totally confused on what to put on the DS-230; which I believe is the actual Visa/Grean Card/SSN application (?)...

Since she will need to get her passport changed to use my name, I'm thinking we should fill out the DS-230 using my name as well. any body that have gone through a name change during the process want to chime in?

check the following link:

http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/media/pdf-visas/iv-visa-information--packet-4.pdf

It is mentioned in the document under "PASSPORT" option:

A female applicant does not have to change her name to her married name. Those applicants whose passports are issued in their maiden names will have their visas issued in their maiden names.

Do not worry about USCIS. My wife is also getting her PCC from Ahmedabad office. Remember if you want to change her middle name to your name once she is US, it will take at least 3 years untill she can apply for citizenship. The best option is this: Ask her to get a new passport. This will take 10 days only. Also submit the new passport copy along with DS230 and mentioned in the cover letter that her name has been legally and that this the proof. I had a similar situation where I submitted a copy of my wife's maiden passport along with I-130. It is an easily fixable solution.

Also it could be a potential red flag, since it is common in India that the wife's middle is her husband's name. The CO officer in Mumbai might look at wonder why the name hasn't been changed.
